Gai Waterhouse’s glamour mare More Joyous once again saluted for the punters when the four-year-old scored her third win on the trot with an emphatic victory in the $175,000 Group 2 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill last Saturday, March 19.
After winning both the Group 2 Breeders Classic and Group 1 Futurity Stakes this preparation, More Joyous went out as the raging $1.30 favourite in the 2011 Canterbury Stakes.
In an aggressive front running ride from jockey Nash Rawiller, More Joyous was never threatened and made a mess of her rivals further staking her claims for the $2 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 16.
The official Canterbury Stakes result was More Joyous 2 ¾ lengths ahead of Love Conquers All ($5.50) with Demerit ($16) five lengths away third.
Resuming Doncaster Mile champion Rangirangdoo ($16) lost few fans with his game run, eventually finishing fourth in his first run for 11 months.
More Joyous has now won 13 of her 17 career starts to date, Saturday’s win boosting her total earnings to an impressive $1.98 million in prize money.
Following her victory in the Canterbury Stakes and the withdrawal of Mark Kavanagh’s Whobegotyou from the Sydney Carnival due to injury, More Joyous has firmed dramatically in the early 2011 Doncaster Mile odds at Luxbet.
She sits at the top of the market paying $2.30 while Saturday’s Group 1 Coolmore Classic winner Aloha has firmed into the $9 second elect for the Doncaster at Luxbet.
