2011 Canterbury Stakes Nominations – Rosehill Gardens

March 15th, 2011

The 2011 Group 2 Canterbury Stakes Nominations are out and there are 10 horses hoping to fight for the $175,000 race this Saturday March 19th at Rosehill Racecourse.

More Joyous headlines the field with her imposing record of 11 wins from 15 starts overshadowing the rest of the field.

This preparation she won the Breeders Classic first up before claiming the Futurity Stakes last start.

She won both races convincingly so will start the 2011 Canterbury Stakes as a huge favourite.

She’s on her way to the Doncaster Mile where already she’s a $2.90 favourite in futures markets on Luxbet.

Another win here and she’s likely to drop as far as an even money chance with still a month to go before the race.

Her chances were made even better for the Canterbury Stakes after Hot Danish was ruled out of the field with a leg infection.

That leaves Rangirangdoo as arguably the biggest competition although last year’s Doncaster winner hasn’t raced since that performance due to ongoing foot issues.

He is currently at $13 to claim back to back Doncaster Mile titles.

Triple Elegance may also draw some attention in the nominations list but it’s unlikely she will run with Chris Waller happy to pin his hopes on Rangirangdoo.

Melito is another runner capable of being there at the end but is also uncertain having been also nominated in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic.

However after a lofty 59.5kgs weight allocation in that race could open the door for a More Joyous / Melito clash in the Canterbury Stakes.

Melito won’t be contesting the Doncaster, instead favouring a crack overseas in the Hong Kong Champions Mile on April 26th.

This is one of those races where the inclusion of a single horse will change betting throughout the entire field.

Because of that make sure you come back later in the week to check out our final field post as well as all the latest odds thank to Luxbet
